I Cut Fruit For You by Pey Chi

Lamington Drive is pleased to present I Cut Fruit For You by Pey Chi 佩绮.Born from gestures of love and joy, I Cut Fruit For You is the first solo exhibition by Naarm-based, multidisciplinary artist Pey Chi. Inspired by her cultural curiosity and a need to connect to her Chinese-Malaysian (Hakka and Hokkien) culture, Pey Chi’s colour-filled works are a meditation on nostalgia, sentimentality and her diasporic experience.In her customary kitsch ’n’ cute style, every piece in the exhibition references memories of home and incorporates the humor and absurdity of living between two places. I Cut Fruit For You includes 29 paintings and ceramics with recurring motifs of flowers, foods, animals and caricatures that journeys her experience through chronic illness and navigating her identities. The work is an invitation to join Pey Chi on her journey between homes, to explore culture, experience colour and celebrate joy.Pey Qi Chin aka Pey Chi 佩绮 is well renowned for her hand-built ceramics, hand-poked tattoos, digital and analogue drawings and paintings. She has a background in textile design. Blue Sky Days by Clemens Habicht

Lamington Drive is pleased to present Blue Sky Days, an exhibition by
Clemens Habicht – part of the Melbourne Design Week 2024 satellite program.The show features a sea of colourful Sail Kites, each a unique piece of art, craft and design, and a new video artwork, Uttarayan, from Habicht’s years of research at the kite festivals of Gujarat and Rajasthan, India.The kites demonstrate sustainable design in action and promote a culture of sustainability both in the manufacturing process and in the global end user market. The project is committed to using no new plastics in the production – all components are sourced from either organic or recycled materials, reusing spinnaker sails that are no longer fit for sailing to create a valuable resource out of a something otherwise destined for landfill.Visitors are invited to fly kites with Clemens in a public program on Sat 25 May, including workshops that share in the art of flying these traditional single line fighters. The exhibition also coincides with the product launch to the public of the Sail Kites and the first edition kites will be available to purchase.Clemens Habicht is an illustrator, graphic designer and film maker based in Paris, France and Sydney, Australia. He has directed music videos for Bob Dylan, AC/DC, Tame Impala and Flume as well as the Sydney Dance Company and has been featured at the Edinburgh Film Festival, the BFI London and CamerImage Festival Poland. He has been invited to speak on design at Semi Permanent festival and to guest lecture at the Bauhaus Universitat in Weimar.
